 How does it work?

We’ve made it simple for sports clubs to access solar energy, even if budgets are tight. Here’s how:
1. No upfront costs:

HDM Energies will install the solar panels at your club for free. There's nothing for you to pay upfront.

2. Energy savings:

Once the system is installed, you’ll start generating your own energy. Any electricity you use from the system is charged at a much lower rate, starting at just 16p per kWh, much cheaper than typical supplier rates.

3. Fixed energy prices:

Lock in your energy rate for the full contract term, so you’re protected from future price hikes.

4. Excess energy:

If your club produces more energy than it needs, we’ll sell the surplus to the national grid. This helps cover installation costs, keeping the scheme completely free for your club.

5. Full maintenance included:

We handle all system maintenance, ensuring everything runs smoothly without you needing to lift a finger.

 Why solar for your club?

Solar for Sport isn’t just about cutting bills.
There are plenty of other ways your club can benefit:
Lower energy bills:

Reduce your club’s energy costs by up to 40% by generating your own electricity at cheaper rates.

Price certainty:

Fix your energy rate for the duration of the contract, giving you financial stability.

Battery storage:

Opt to add battery storage as part of your installation, providing up to 3 hours of energy storage - enough to power your club through an entire game.

Improved EPC rating:

A better Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating could open up more financial incentives and opportunities.

Boost property value:

A solar installation can increase your club’s property value and make it more appealing to buyers or tenants in the future.

Lead the way on sustainability:

Show your supporters and community that your club is taking meaningful steps to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

Electric Vehicle Charging:

Opt for EV charging points as part of the installation, providing a new income stream while making it easier for players, staff, and supporters with electric cars.

Go green funding:

Take advantage of any government incentives that may be available to further reduce your costs.

 Frequently asked questions

You’ve got questions. Here are the answers to help you understand how Solar for Sport could work for your club.
Who owns the equipment?

HDM Energies owns the solar panels and equipment, but your club has the option to purchase the system during the contract.

What happens if we move to a new stadium?

The system can either be moved to the new stadium (at an agreed cost) or transferred to the new owners of your current stadium.

Can we buy the system outright?

Yes. Your club can choose to buy the solar system at any time, and from then on, all the energy generated is yours, with no further payments to HDM Energies.

Will we have backup power during a blackout?

Yes, we offer battery storage solutions that can act as a backup power source during a national grid outage. Ask us about adding this option to your solar system for complete peace of mind.

How long are the contracts?

You can choose a contract length that suits your club, from 5 to 25 years. The longer you commit, the lower the energy rate we can offer. Most clubs opt for a 10-15 year contract to strike the right balance between cost savings and flexibility.

What if we want to end the contract early?

If you wish to end the contract before the agreed term, you can do so by buying the system outright at a proportionate cost, depending on how long the system has been installed.

How will we be billed?

You’ll only pay for the energy your club uses, tracked via a meter installed with the system. This is separate from your usual energy supplier. There are no hidden fees or standing charges, just one low, fixed rate for the energy generated by the solar panels.
